Staying In
Invest In A Freestanding Bath
Bathroom design doesn’t get much chicer than a freestanding tub. They’re simply made for luxuriating in – whether for a quiet evening with essential oils or a pamper session complete with bubbles and Prince blaring through a speaker, à la Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman. ‘Freestanding baths offer a real sense of occasion and a boutique-hotel quality that’s hard to replicate with any other single piece,’ agrees Louise Ashdown, head of design at West One Bathrooms. Think of it as the statement piece in your bathroom. ‘A freestanding bath is designed to be seen,’ agrees Cat Buchanan, head design consultant at ABI Interiors. But if you’re considering one for your home, make sure to plan the space well in advance. ‘Position matters enormously,’ emphasises Louise. ‘If the space isn’t genuinely generous enough to allow the bath to breathe, it will look exactly as though it has been squeezed in, and cleaning underneath and around it will be a constant frustration. It’s one of the most common mistakes I see.’ For more bathroom design inspiration, see our guide here.
Going Out
Join A Moving Meditation Walk
Dutch-born wellness brand Sanctum is known for its euphoric mindful movement concept, which combines meditation, breathwork and exercise for an experience like no other. Try it for yourself this spring at the new weekly series from Inhabit Hotels. Each Tuesday, 90-minute sessions will take participants on a guided walking route through Queen’s Gardens, the walkways of Paddington Basin and the green surroundings of Little Venice – kitted out with headphones leading the session. Sound and music are used to support pacing, incorporating elements of breathing exercises, light physical activation and reflective pauses. Finish with a restorative smoothie or apoptogenic latte back at the hotel. Tuesdays 6.30-8pm, eventbrite.co.uk
Property Of The Day
This Tudor home welcomes you in via its 16th century entrance, onto the Victorian kitchen, and then through to the 2001 extension with its pool and gym – and that’s not even mentioning the WWII plaque out front. Spanning 16 acres, this Grade II listed country house is truly a portal through time (and it boasts some of the most beautiful private gardens in the region).
