Bring Your Houseplant Back To Life

Who else has been given a beautiful flowering house plant full of vigour with healthy green leaves, only to reduce it to a yellowing, bud-dropping, shadow of its former self within a week or two? (Guilty.) ‘We all start out with the best of intentions to nurture our new acquisition, only to kill it through overzealous watering or bad positioning,’ says Rosebie Morton, founder of The Real Flower Company. ‘These two factors are the main cause of a short-lived indoor plant – along with yoyo watering, overheating and drafts.’ Ironically, she tells us, those who tend to neglect their houseplants are more successful at keeping them alive. ‘Most house plants are reasonably undemanding and thrive in indirect light so are very happy on an east or west windowsill. Too often people place their plants in full sun so their leaves get scorched and the plant dries out. Mimicking the plant’s natural habitat is the best way to keep your house plant healthy.’ You can read Rosebie’s full guide to houseplant care here.

Celebrate British Pie Week

Whether it’s a suet pudding, a golden-crusted steak number or a fruity dessert, there’s nothing like a good, hearty pie. Although the dish can be traced back to Ancient Rome, over the years it has become known as one of Britain’s national dishes – and what better time to celebrate (and eat) the staple dish than during British Pie Week? The important culinary event returns to the capital from 3 – 9 March 2026, and restaurants are getting involved with special pop-ups and creations. Rosewood London’s Holborn Dining Room has its very own Pie Room, which is serving up specials including a scallop and lobster combination – plus a rhubarb pie for pudding. At the Gladwin brothers’ pub The Pig’s Ear in Chelsea, meanwhile, there’s a whole set menu dedicated to pies: kick off with the signature marmite and mushroom eclair before either Sussex beef and mushroom pie, or truffled cauliflower, washed down with a glass of fizz from the family vineyard in Nutbourne. Find more delicious pies here.

Whatever You Do, Don’t

Overlook Ling fish in March, says chef Alex Aitken (Harbour Hotels), as it's abundant through early spring, and can be responsibly sourced in the UK. It’s often overlooked despite being a fantastic eating fish with a firm, almost meaty texture. It works beautifully roasted straight on the bone, or gently poached. Chefs love it because it holds flavour well without being delicate.
