Staying In

Watch Emily in Paris Season 5

After season 4’s summer debut, Netflix is reverting to its tried-and-tested festive Emily in Paris premiere for season 5 – they just know we will be binge watching the whole affair. This technicolour daydream of a romcom centres on Chicago transplant marketing exec Emily Cooper (Lily Collins) as she navigates work, romance and cultural faux pas in a Paris that exists somewhere between reality and mood board. But this time, it’s a tale of two cities: Emily has hopped across to Rome to open a new Agence Grateau office – while also doing some serious research into a certain handsome Italian cashmere scion, Marcello (Eugenio Franceschini). Back in the city of lights, all of our old friends are returning, including Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu as Sylvie Grateau, Ashley Park as Mindy Chen and Lucas Bravo as Emily’s on-again-off-again chef beau Gabriel. Expect sharper career stakes, romantic reshuffles, and Emily finally evolving from wide-eyed outsider into someone who might finally know what she wants. All 10 episodes (yes, all 10) are streaming now on Netflix. Watch here

Going Out

Book The Fife Arms’ Highland Healing Experience

From the Italian capital to… the snow-capped landscapes of the Scottish Highlands, where five-star Braemar hotel The Fife Arms has launched a healing winter escape. The three-night getaway is all about soaking up the magic of the Cairngorms in its wintry splendour. Wrap up for a guided night walk around the estate, with hot chocolate and a spot of stargazing along the way (Scotland’s remote areas are among some of the UK’s best for this, due to their vast dark skies and low light pollution). Back at the hotel, enjoy a 55-minute massage, and your choice of either whisky tasting in Bertie’s Bar or afternoon tea by the fire. But be sure to save space for dinner at The Clunie Dining Room, which is centred around open-fire cooking that celebrates Scottish produce. Better still, a Jane Carr scarf will be waiting in your room for you, the perfect souvenir to take home. Fun fact: you’ll be following in the footsteps of Rita Ora, Judi Dench and Will Ferrell, who have all stayed here. Available 2 January - 31 March 2026, starting rates for a Nature & Poetry Suite from £525 per night. thefifearms.com

Property Of The Day

Dating back to 1867, Old School Hall was once (unsurprisingly) an old school hall, now reimaged as a modern family home. Despite the refurbishment undertaken by the correct owners, many of the period features of this Grade II listed property remain – with the former school assembly hall now converted into an open plan kitchen and living space.

Whatever You Do, Don’t

Be afraid to go all out on Christmas decorating this year – according to the design experts, Kitschmas is all the rage. ‘Layer your patterns, mix your textures and don’t hold back – maximalism is the name of the game,’ says Jamie Watkins, co-founder of Divine Savages. ‘Kitsch thrives on abundance and theatre.’
