Staying In
Settle In At A British Hotel This Travel Tuesday
Is it just us or did Black Friday start ludicrously early once again this year? Our typical antidote is Green Friday, the environmental anti-Black Friday movement that promotes mindful shopping and environmental appreciation. But our favourite remedy? Travel Tuesday: the travel industry’s response to the sales, slashing prices on memorable experiences instead of things, things, things. Use this opportunity to plan your next big escape; Intrepid Travel is giving adventurers 20 percent off their next small group adventure when you book before 4 December, while flight-free Byway is offering guests free first class upgrades on their 2026 slow travel trips (ends 10 Dec). Or why not use these flash sales to lock in your next cosy staycation? Hunker down in Loch Lomond, where Cameron House is reducing prices by up to 40 percent – or in North Wales, where Penmaenuchaf also has up to 40 percent off. Or holiday in the capital: London’s The Athenaeum is slashing room prices by 30 percent. Find our full guide to the best deals here, all C&TH approved.
Going Out
Step Into The World Of Wes Anderson
Do you have a favourite Wes Anderson film? The Royal Tenenbaums perhaps or The Darjeeling Limited? Wesophiles and ordinary citizens alike will delight in the Design Museum’s new exhibition, which invites visitors into the director’s wonderfully kooky world. Each film, from his first (Bottle Rocket) to this year’s The Phoenician Scheme, has its own section reflecting the director’s unique and meticulous (obsessive?) process: sketches, storyboards, scripts with hand scribblings, personal notebooks. You’ll also find candid snaps and behind-the-scenes polaroids of his many A-list collaborators, the 3m wide replica of the bubblegum pink Grand Budapest Hotel (used to capture the facade in the film) and Margot Tenenbaum’s Fendi fur coat. It’s all there, casting a fun foray into the mind of one of this century’s most original filmmakers – make sure to save 14 minutes to watch Bottle Rocket in a screening room at the end. Until 26 July 2026

Psssst…
Jonathan Bailey revealed an unexpected link between Wicked and Bridgerton: he rides the very same horse in both. Bailey – AKA the Sexiest Man Alive 2025 – revealed on The Graham Norton Show that he built up ‘an amazing relationship’ with Jack the horse during Bridgerton, so requested to bring him along to his new role as Fiyero in the movie musical.
Whatever You Do, Don’t
Chill champagne in the freezer, as this can kill the bubbles and flavour. Instead, plunge it in an ice bucket half filled with water and ice, the Champagne Bureau suggests – and if you’re ever running short on time, add two tablespoons of salt to the cold water to speed up the cooling.
