Staying In
Watch Amadeus
An opulent new TV series launched on Sky over the weekend – perfect for some cosy watching in this festive wind down. Led by a stellar trio in the form of Will Sharpe, Paul Bettany and Gabrielle Creevy, Amadeus is a reimagining of Peter Shaffer’s Tony award winning 1979 play and its 1984 film adaptation of the same name starring F. Murray Abraham and Tom Hulce. Sharpe is the greatest composer of all time: a flamboyant, peacocking Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart reaching the lofty peak of his career and falling in love with Constanze Weber (Creevy). But the green-eyed-monster is watching: devoutly religious court composer Antonio Salieri (Bettany) hates the man. Amadeus’ talent is a direct threat to everything he holds dear: his reputation, his own ability, even his faith in God. And across five episodes we get to watch the catastrophic spiral. Going Out
Book A Cabin Stay At Glebe House
Your calendar may be chock-a-block right now, but no doubt January’s diary will be looking a little calmer. So why not treat your future self to a post-Christmas staycation? We’ve got just the place: charming Devon hotel Glebe House has unveiled two new design-led cabins. They’re decked out with pieces from local artists: jazzy wallpaper from Georgie Hopton, hand-made ceramic lights from Studio Harran, colourful wallhangings from Tessa Layzelle and kitchen cabinets made by local carpenter Will Mace, crafted from reclaimed cheeseboards. Each comes with its own super-king bed, kitchen and dining nook with a wood burner – plus a private deck complete with a sunken outdoor bath. A new wood-fired sauna has also popped up at the hotel, boasting views over the Coly Valley. It would be easy to while away a weekend without leaving the grounds, but in the name of going OUT be sure to tear yourself away from this dreamy space for walks along the Jurassic Coast and days pottering around the seaside town of Lyme Regis. glebehousedevon.co.uk
Property Of The Day
‘Say it’s carol singers’ – so began the cards which prompted the most talked-about scene in Christmas movie history. And while we may or may not condone Keira Knightley’s non–matrimonial pity kiss, we can’t deny that the mews home which it occurs outside is the perfect romantic spot for a Christmas confession of love. While this South London home may not be an exact replica of the one used in the movie, to us it is a perfect dupe.
On the market for £3.95m. Find out more at knightfrank.co.uk

Whatever You Do, Don’t
Eat lobster on New Year’s Eve. Folklore says the crustacean brings bad luck for the year ahead – apparently stemming from the fact that it moves backwards. Instead, make like the Spanish and see off 12 grapes as the clock strikes midnight to be rewarded with success for 2026.
