Staying In
Eat These Hydrating Foods
Melting? Swerve cooking in the oven and prioritise hydrating, fresh foods instead. During a heatwave, your body must work harder to regulate temperature so heavy meals and dehydrating drinks hit harder than usual, private chef Barry D’Arcy (founder of Ocean Earth Chefs) tells us. ‘A lot of people mistake sluggishness or headaches as purely heat-related when, in reality, what they are eating and drinking throughout the day is playing a major role as well.’ He adds, ‘you generally feel better eating foods that feel lighter and fresher rather than overly rich or dense. People also forget that the body naturally loses around 300 to 500ml of water vapour a day through breathing alone, before you even factor in sweating during hot weather.’ Some of the most hydrating foods out there are cucumber, tomatoes, watermelon, courgettes, celery and mushrooms.

Watch The Giorgio Armani Tennis Classic
Tennis season is well and truly upon us – but before you get excited for Wimbledon, set your sights instead on The Hurlingham Club, which is set to host the Giorgio Armani Tennis Classic for its 32nd edition. And there’s a serious lineup of tennis stars returning to the club’s courts: alongside British No. 1 Cameron Norrie and three-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka, the bill includes the likes of Casper Ruud, Flavio Cobolli, Karen Khachanov and Luciano Darderi. While the players will be drumming up plenty of excitement, off the court visitors can also enjoy fine dining experiences (with a menu curated by Michelin-starred chef Paul Ainsworth), champagne receptions and even intimate Q&A sessions with event athletes. 23-27 June, tickets available now. giorgioarmanitennisclassic.com
Property Of The Day
Jane Austen’s favourite brother Henry lived at 24 Upper Berkeley Street in Marylebone from 1801 to 1804 – with the plaque out front commemorating its connection to the Austen family. A familiar address for fans of Sense & Sensibility, it’s said that Jane’s visits to the street inspired the novel’s setting. Now transformed into a short-let residence, this is the perfect base to explore Austen’s favourite London haunts.

Psssst…
The England team will take on Ghana in their second game of the World Cup tonight, but how do the players stay on top of their game during the tournament? One way is by donning Whoop bands: screen-free trackers which FIFA has approved to be worn during matches. With their strong focus on recovery, the wearables will prove particularly helpful considering the hot temperatures in North America right now, with boss Thomas Tuchel noting that acclimatising to the heat and humidity will be one of the biggest challenges for players.
Whatever You Do, Don’t
Place a fan by an open window during the hottest part of the day – this can actually pull warm air inside. Instead, use fans in the evening to circulate cooler air. Find more tips on keeping your house cool and sleeping better in a heatwave here.
