Staying In

Listen To The House Guest Podcast

If you love interior design – or just enjoy a peek inside incredible homes – check out our House Guest podcast. Each week, C&TH’s interiors editor Carole Annett chats to experts from the world of interior design and decoration, hearing all about their journeys to success and uncovering top tips for listeners. In our latest episode, Carole meets Fiona Barratt Campbell, whose ‘industrial meets superluxe’ design philosophy sets her apart and has earned her some impressive projects, including The Powerhouse Chelsea Waterfront – formerly the Lots Road power station, which once powered the London Underground network. ‘I met up with her in one of the penthouses to talk design, work-life, her love of rugged texture and natural stone, and why everything she does has to have integrity,’ says Carole. Going Out

Check Out Suite 70 At Sofitel London St James

‘You mustn’t miss it,’ says Zandra Rhodes of the new flagship Suite 70 at Sofitel London St James. We joined Zandra at the unveiling, where she was invited to give her stamp of approval to an iconic 70s-inspired design, as an icon of the 70s herself. Truly something special, it’s an explosion of orange fabrics and finishes, graphic swirls and pop iconography to transport you to the most visually exciting decade in history. David Bowie features strongly, along with famous portraits and artworks from the era, a vintage saxophone, a record player (with records, of course) and a lava lamp in the concert trunk-inspired foldaway Experience Bar. Downstairs the other reimagined signature suite, The Opera Suite, offers a more elegant nude, pale pink and taupe interpretation of the era in a sprawling 109 square metre space with views overlooking Waterloo Place. Both, alongside four colour-block blue or green corner suites, were the work of the brilliant Pierre-Yves Rochon, bringing Parisian chic to this London landmark hotel. The suites are beautiful enough to be mini museums; but entrance is limited to one party per night, with entrance rates starting at £2,100 per night. sofitelstjames.com

Psssst…

Whatever You Do, Don’t

Rush any important decisions, schedule a big confrontational discussion or be too hard on yourself while Mercury is in retrograde (until 20 March). Instead, astrologists recommend slowing down and taking time to reflect on your goals, as well as being extra careful with your communication – this period is notorious for making life feel more chaotic, but it doesn’t have to be a negative time.
