Staying In

Watch Young Sherlock

There’s a new Sherlock Holmes on the block, and this time he’s an unruly 19-year-old brought to life by Hero Fiennes Tiffin and directed by Guy Ritchie. Studying at Oxford University, in Young Sherlock, he’s as inquisitive as we know Arthur Conan Doyle’s famed detective to be, but in this younger rendition he is raw, unfiltered and undisciplined. But a murder in the city sets him onto his first real case… Star Holly Cattle tells us to expect ‘a classic Guy Ritchie action packed thriller: dark, light, scary and funny all at breakneck speed. Blink and you’re behind.’ She stars as ‘badass’ Bea, who plays a pivotal role in the drama – but no spoilers here. What we can tell you is that she is ‘incredibly intelligent, charming and disarming and a total chameleon,’ as Holly puts it – ‘a master of manipulation and mimicry and she’ll crush anyone in her way’. She’s also ‘glued to Bucephalus Hodge who’s played by Colin Firth’, and BTS that meant ‘arguing over who was having the last Cadbury’s twirl and asking each other if they were watching our closeup because “that’s how it’s done and you’d do well to learn”,’ Holly says. Going Out

Book One Of London’s Hottest Restaurants

Here at C&TH we love discovering off-the-beaten-track restaurants – those quiet neighbourhood joints where you can spontaneously waltz in for dinner with no booking. But it’s hard not to be curious about the ultra-popular spots too, where nabbing a table is akin to securing Glastonbury tickets. Guaranteeing a table at these joints requires forward planning: you need to know exactly when reservations open and be ready to go (often with your card details to put down a deposit). At A-list favourite The Dover, for instance, bookings drop 28 days ahead for lunch and 21 days ahead for dinner – and if you’re not successful, turn on the ‘alert me’ option to get notified when someone cancels. For cult favourite Crisp Pizza (which now operates from The Marlborough pub in Mayfair), tables are released on Mondays at 12pm for the following six weeks – but you can also queue (arrive for 11am, add your name to the waitlist and have a drink). No tables going at Oma in Borough Market? Head to no-bookings sister restaurant Agora downstairs, which offers similar (and slightly cheaper) Greek fare. Find other hot tips here.

Property Of The Day

If you wanted a high-quality piano in the 19th century, you probably would’ve bought it from Chappell & Co. Beethoven himself was a fan of the brand, as was Richard Strauss and Jean Sibelius. And now their piano-making factories in Camden have been transformed into a stunning industrial penthouse.

Whatever You Do, Don’t

Hang all your art in a perfect grid, says interior designer and creative consultant at Joanna Wood, Hattie Hansard – ‘unless the room is very architectural or modern and perfectly balanced.’ She adds that this look can very quickly look too ‘corporate’ if you’re not careful.
