Dear Reader,
Welcome to this exclusive snapshot of the new issue of Great British Brands, which is landing on doorsteps today!
This very special edition celebrates our tenth birthday – and, as ever, it has been a privilege and honour to talk to so many CEOs about their triumphs and achievements as they’ve weathered the decade’s storms. Even more remarkable was learning about their ambitions for the next decade. Each brand is resolutely determined to grow and show the world that, when it comes to making exquisite things, no one does it better than the Brits.
Inside, you’ll find pages packed with Britain’s greatest brands, alongside rip-roaring features from our country’s foremost journalists and an interview with the creator of this year’s cover, the hugely successful contemporary British artist Philip Colbert. The wonderful lobster may have puzzled you, or piqued your curiosity – but once you read about Lucy Cleland’s visit to Philip’s studio, you will understand why the lobster is the perfect portal into our world of extraordinary, brilliant British brands.

Winner of our Brand of the Decade Award
Favourite British brand? Neal’s Yard Remedies, of course.
Hero? David Attenborough. His enduring commitment to raising awareness of the natural world is unrivalled.
Weekend? A Saturday browsing Portobello Market; lunch with the family at Canteen; and Sunday reading in my little garden. Bliss.
Meal? I love to make roast chicken on a Sunday with roast potatoes and kale. It has to be organic and the vegetables come from Riverford Organic. I love making food for my family, it’s a highlight of my week.
Shop? Neal’s Yard Dairy. No, we aren’t one business, but we have a long and special history having started out together in the 1980s in Neal’s Yard, where we still are today. The two businesses are like cousins.
Undiscovered gem? Books for Cooks, the best cookbook shop in London, on Blenheim Crescent in Notting Hill. It has a café too. This is a dreamy place to spend an afternoon browsing – you’ll find thousands of books on everything you could ever want to know about food.
Idiosyncrasy? Tea & Sympathy. When things go wrong, the first thing we do is put on the kettle.
Car? Series 1 Land Rover.
Book? Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë.
