Favourite British brand? Land Rover. I've spent weeks crossing remote regions of the planet in them. And I'm talking about the plucky, goes anywhere no-nonsense versions. Not Chelsea tractor excessiveness. Such an iconic look that now everyone wants (but in turn would probably be unable be able to fix a puncture).
Hero? There is only one hero, British or anywhere else in the known universe. That's David Attenborough. He stuck to his principles and passions and put natural history into the collective public consciousness. I can safely say he was a big part of my journey to explore the world.
Weekend? A remote bothy on the west coast of Scotland with a spectacular view and preferably a loch to swim in. Remote (no signal or WiFi), craggy and miles away from anyone is the preference.
Meal? Mum's shepherd's pie. I'm sure she used to cheat by loading it with ketchup and Lea & Perrins but my word it was delicious (especially when cold and had been sitting in the fridge for a day or so).
Shop? John Sandoe bookstore in Chelsea. I can lose yourself for hours there.
Undiscovered gem? Not telling!
Idiosyncrasy? You can be scruffy but still incredibly smart.
Band? I have a very eclectic, extensive, and maybe even edgy collection and no loyalty to any particular genre. I also have no idea of the identity of the majority of the artists in my multitude of playlists. I just know I like the sound. If pushed, I'd say London Grammar.
Car? If it can get me from A to B then I'm happy. I'm not fussed by 'status'. The old school Mini Cooper – no need for big pointless excess (what you trying to prove?). The Minis certainly have a certain style.
Book? Encyclopaedia Britannica: knowledge and curiosity is everything. Fewer and fewer people are prepared to do the research these days. You can't trail your finger down a screen or sit surrounded by your hard drives of data. One day a solar flare will most likely wipe out all digital information anyway! These are tangible and have a permanence.
