Interiors: November 2024 Newsletter

Dear Reader,

This month we’re in cooking mode and enjoying a bit of nostalgia. The latest Storybook Kitchen trend is all about living in the past – painted wooden cabinets, open shelves and even a lace curtain or two. I like cookware that goes from oven to table (and judging by the recent Le Creuset sale where the police had to be called for crowd-control, so do a lot of other people). If you missed out, fear not, we’ve compiled a list of covetable cookware, including the classic cast iron dishes. With Christmas looming it’s time to think about entertaining. How about a champagne tower? Follow Tessa Dunthorne’s how-to if you’re brave enough to try… And, of course, a gift to you: design newness.

People are going crazy for aesthetic cookware, says Ellie. Here are the trendiest pieces to pop on Santa’s list.

A practical skill you didn’t know you’d need this season: how to construct a champagne tower.

Partner Spotlight: Catchpole & Rye

The Charleston Collection

Tony O’Donnell, the brand’s founder, shares newness.

‘The Charleston Collection launched last month… It’s a new range of washstands and we’ve been so pleased with the positive response. We hosted an event to mark the occasion in our Fulham Road showroom and to celebrate 10 years in this space. We renovated ahead of the launch, showcasing several of the new Charleston designs – it’s truly a very versatile piece and we wanted to show this off in the displays.

Next year we will be opening an archive museum… At our Pluckley HQ. This will showcase some of the heritage designs that have inspired Catchpole & Rye from the outset as well as a curated range of unique antique pieces. We’re also launching a new website in 2025, to ensure the best experience for our customers and to showcase all new and updated photography of our products.

British brands are renowned for their commitment to heritage and implementing traditional techniques… It’s about craftsmanship, and the longevity of artisanal methods, and how this is now combined with modern engineering. There is a long history of collaboration between creative industries in this country – our Charleston washstands take a lot of inspiration from modernist artists Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant, for example, and I think this cross-sector and cross-era influence is part of what makes British brands so special.

Our products are made in Kent blending traditional techniques with modern innovation… Engineering, electroplating, sand-cast, patternmaking, hand-finishing, and hand packaging – every product that a customer receives has passed through many stages and hands in our workshops. We invest heavily in research and development, and partner with like-minded British suppliers to sustain heritage skills, quality, and sustainability.

We’re family-owned and operated… And we will continue championing British manufacturing and craftsmanship. We are steadfast in our commitment to producing the highest quality luxury bathrooms in the UK.
