September 2024 GBB newsletter

Dear Reader,

The mornings are crisper; the sunshine more golden. It’s officially autumn, and with it comes, as ever, our country special – out now. Here we bring you just a snippet of what can be found between the pages, including interviews with British fashion industry figureheads Giles Deacon and Jade Holland Cooper, and a fascinating tour of the remnants of pagan Britain. Just the thing as the nights draw in.

  • Favourite British brand? Barbour. It’s iconic and classic with its designs, perfectly capturing quintessential British fashion.

  • Hero? Sir Robin Knox Johnston. First to sail single handedly around the world, then enabled thousands of others to do so through Clipper Ventures.

  • Weekend? I always love to spend my weekends in the Cotswolds, full of scenic little villages like Broadway, Bourton-on-the-Water, and Stow-on-the-Wold. They’re perfect for walking around, visiting eateries, and boutique shopping.

  • Meal? I don’t think you can beat traditional fish ’n’ chips – preferably at the seaside with lots of salt and vinegar.

  • Shop? I’ve always admired John Lewis for traditionally being rooted in quality customer service and products.

  • Undiscovered gem? I’m not sure how undiscovered it is but walks in the South Downs never disappoint. I’m particularly fond of the meandering Cuckmere Valley. A walk along the river offers views of the Seven Sisters and is steeped in history.

  • Idiosyncrasy? If all else fails, you can always converse with someone about the unpredictable British weather. It’s something we all love to do, moan about the rain!

  • Band? In my eyes, the Beatles will always be number one. They changed the music scene forever and continue to influence music today.

  • Car? My dream car is the AC Ace, a beautiful and understated timeless design.

  • Book? Robinson Crusoe is a classic adventure tale, and always has a place in my heart having spent a decade in the Caribbean.
