Tax efficient investing before the Budget – click here for free guide

Dear Reader,

The demise of the British pub is a twisted tale. The British Beer and Pub Association (BBPA) tells us that one pub closes every day. There are, however, a collection of pub pioneers who are reinventing them for a modern-day customer. Try getting a table at one of Public House’s five boozers and you’ll be kept waiting a long time for that pint. The boys behind them are putting community and food at the heart of what they do – and it’s working. The Bull in Charlbury was where David Beckham chose to toast his recent knighthood. There are others too, who are making them work harder for locals – as well as attractive as destination places. My picks? John Ayton’s The Horse & Groom, in West Sussex, which has a beautiful garden and brings in top chefs to host supper clubs; The Great Bustard near Salisbury which has a cute treatment room; and I’m looking forward to my office Christmas lunch at The Trafalgar, the first new pub on Chelsea’s King’s Road in over 100 years. Cheers to that.

Have a great week,

WHAT’S EXCITING ME THIS WEEK

London Is Still The B Corp Capital Of The World

In celebration of 10 years of B Corp in the UK, a new report shows that 1,000 of the country’s 2,600 B Corp businesses are in London. We, of course, are among them. While in politics and media, anything good for the planet (e.g. reducing carbon emissions) doesn’t seem to be high on the agenda, there are businesses who are leading the charge and doing the right thing – we salute them all.

Who Will Star in The Celebrity Traitors Series 2?

Next autumn, the castle gates will swing open once again for the most gripping game on television (BBC, we love you!). The cast rumours are already flying. Will it be ex-rugby-star and royal-in-law Mike Tindall, comedian Bob Mortimer or sitcom creator-star Ruth Jones? My choice? Michael McIntyre – just to see what happens when he stops smiling.

The Pope Really Does Netflix And Chill

The first American pope has his own Netflix queue. Ahead of a star-studded Vatican gala, Pope Leo XIV revealed his top four films. Each reflects his mission of redemption, human dignity and transcendent joy, from the uplifting It’s a Wonderful Life and the wartime lullaby of The Sound of Music, to the soul-searching of Ordinary People and the bittersweet triumph of La vita è bella.
