What's On 25th May

Dear Reader,

Amy Powney received a standing ovation last week at the launch of her new brand Akyn, possibly – and probably – the most ethical fashion brand of our times. The room was full of her ‘kynfolk’, the men and women who have supported her fashion and activism journey throughout some tough times. Amy has consistently shown us that fashion can have a conscience, that beauty and integrity can coexist, and that leadership often looks like swimming against the tide. I sat next to a human rights activist and modern-day abolitionist on one side and a broadsheet fashion editor on the other, proving that fashion can be a crucible for important conversation and change. Making the connection of who makes our clothes and where that material comes from – and at what cost – are questions we should all be asking ourselves. Amy’s clothes have the answer stitched into every seam. And they’re beautiful to boot

Have a great week.

What's On For The Jane Austen 250th Anniversary?

It’s incredible to think that the author of such classics as Pride & Prejudice and Emma was born 250 years ago this year (where does the time go?). What she would make of our 21st-century society we’ll never know (although AI will probably give it a stab), but diving into her world feels a good tonic and there’s plenty going on.

Non-Invasive Skin Treatments That Really Work

There’s a lot we can do for our skin that doesn’t involve anything too invasive. In fact, Celia Walden swears by her routine that gives her a dewy glow – it might take longer than more radical intervention but good results are possible with a slow and steady approach.
