What's On 3 August

Dear Reader,
I had to do a speed awareness course this week for doing 25 miles an hour in a 20 zone. I was dreading the three hours (online at least) of what I thought would be a box ticking, lip service, boring, waste of time exercise with a Little Britain bureaucratic type host. How patronising I am! After some very strong instructions to turn the phone off and not be tempted to work while on the Zoom (damn, foiled) – because we’d be randomly asked questions and if we had zoned out, we’d be booted off and would have to collect our three points – I tuned in and concentrated. Apart from some really annoying chat from the other participants, I felt the training to be properly impactful and vaguely enjoyable. Not having looked at a Highway Code for 32 years, I can’t pretend I know all the rules of the road, nor rely upon others to know them either. This way of engaging us to consider our responsibilities was effective and I’m glad I did it, considering that every five minutes someone is killed on our roads. I wonder how this approach could be rolled out across other misdemeanors?
Have a great week.
