What's On 16 June
Dear Reader,
How am I doing with Tiffanie Darke's Rule of Five? Hmmm, in all honesty it's hard. I have bought three new items this year (but don't get me started on resale site Vinted, which deserves its own psychological examination and is not a fix for the over-consumption crisis). I’m focusing instead on the pleasure of the mindful buy. For example, this week I headed to fashion designer Edeline Lee's incredible studio near Whitechapel. First, the building – a former bank off Commercial Road in the heart of the East End, also her home and workshop – is like something from a film set, in the best way: high ceilings, huge windows, bare floorboards, disarmingly beautiful in an industrious and real, raw way. Then you discover that every single item of clothing is made there – I saw the team cutting, sewing, designing in front of my eyes and there’s zero waste – and you’re sucked in. I tried on a suit I'd been lusting after for ages and will be made in that studio just for me. It's expensive for sure, but the cost per wear will be worth it and knowing that I have a relationship with a designer who cares is richness in itself.
Have a great week.
WHAT’S EXCITING ME THIS WEEK
The Wedding Of The Year
Didn’t get the invite? Me neither. Never mind, why don’t you instead have a snoop around the Duke of Westminster’s magnificent estate or discover a bit more about the designer behind ‘the dress’. You’re welcome.
Hat Season
If you didn’t need one for the wedding above, you’re bound to need one for Ascot next week. Here’s our pick of the best British hat brands.
Election Fatigue?
Settle down to the comforting indulgence that is Bridgerton. As superfans, we found out that one character is based on a real person and we know where it’s all been filmed too. So forget Keishi, and go full Bridgy instead.
