What's On 2 June

Dear Reader,

I don’t know about you but I used to read so much more than I do nowadays. I noted in neat ink the novels and non-fiction I would read in a year and it would feel like an achievement. Now though, I can sometimes only manage a few pages at the end of the day and my reading output has dwindled (which shames me somewhat as I consider myself a ‘reader’). So it was with utter joy this week during the half-term holiday that I could put away the laptop (mostly) and fully devour Andrew O’Hagan’s state-of-the-nation novel Caledonian Road – an ambitious book that grapples with everything from modern-day slavery and cancel culture to oligarch wealth and wokeness through a sometimes grotesque cast of characters that cross paths from the gutter to the penthouse. I felt replete on this satisfying diet of words so much more so than when I snack on news bites, sound bites, captions and headlines.

Have a great week.

Why Don't We Just Boycott Plastic?

It’s a good question and one that our Green Coach columnist contends with in this month’s Q&A. But, as ever, it’s not as simple as one thinks. There are though, of course, many things we can do to limit our consumption. Read more here.

Yellowstone – Why The Wait?

I loved this series – brutal and mad as it is. I have a special place in my heart for The West, having lived in Montana for nearly a year once. But why are we waiting so long to discover the denouement of the epic Kevin Costner-led series? As ever real life drama takes over the fictional stuff.
