What's On 28 April

Dear Reader,

We are a nation obsessed with Afternoon Tea. Never has this ritual been so popular – The Ritz has to have five sittings a day starting at 11.30am and ending at 7.30pm just to cater for our cake-loving nation. I myself gorged on dainty smoked salmon sandwiches and jam-laden scones this week at The Savoy. It feels like a way into luxury that is accessible to all: you don’t have to commit fully to staying in a glitzy hotel to enjoy it, nor do you have to navigate a stuffy, expensive dinner menu, and you can delight any guest – whether granny or child. With afternoon tea, you know exactly what you’re getting – tiered plates of sugary confection in a beautiful setting, and who could not delight in that?

Have a great week.

WHAT’S EXCITING ME THIS WEEK

Costly Cocktails

Speaking of glitzy hotels, it’s among London’s most glitziest that you’ll find yourself paying a small mortgage for a cocktail. Not your bog standard Negroni, of course, but still, a Salvatore at Brown’s will set you back over £5,000… Cheers!

Dame Vivienne Westwood’s Wardrobe

Vivienne Westwood was fashion’s punk godmother whose designs thrilled. Now her personal wardrobe is going under the hammer this summer at Christie’s – here’s your chance to pick up a true original.

Buying London

You might not get the sunshine or the gleaming white teeth of Selling Sunset, but you will probably get similar storylines translated to the greyer streets of the city when property show Buying London lands on Netflix next month.
